The attacking force always chooses the time and place of entry. This gives them a tactical advantage. Defenders have to meet the invaders before they can gain strategic advantage or become a threat to their homeworld. The Josti class SDB is designed to fulfill this role.
The Josti class sacrifices armor for acceleration, in order to meet and harry the enemy, buying time for the heavier SDBs to be brought to bear. With 5 gees of acceleration, missiles and heavy laser turrets, standard operating procedure is for these craft to use their high acceleration to engage the enemy as soon as possible. They then stay at long range for their lasers, outside the enemies bay weapons range, and do as much damage to the enemy as possible. They try to take out enemies turret weapons and then finish them off with missiles. Combat survival rates for these craft is not high but they fulfill their role admirably.
